Baseball Closes Out Fall Practice with Garnet and Black World Series

The University of South Carolina baseball team completed fall practice with the Garnet and Black World Series Thursday and Friday (Nov. 9-10) at Founders Park. The Garnet team won both contests by 8-4 and 8-5 scores.
Game 1
The Garnet team won the first game, 8-4, on Thursday afternoon (Nov. 9). Garnet broke a 4-all deadlock with four runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Tyler Zedalis, Dalton Reeves and Jonathan French each had two hits apiece while Zedalis drove in a pair of runs. Carson Hornung had a solo home run to straightaway center field while Parker Noland doubled and walked in the win. Jevarra Martin struck out a pair while not allowing a hit in 2.2 innings and Garrett Gainey closed out the game striking out four in two scoreless frames.
For the Black team, Ethan Petry homered and drove in two. Evan Stone had an RBI single. On the mound, Eli Jones had four strikeouts in three innings. Austin Williamson and Sam Simpson combined for five strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
Game 2
The Garnet team completed the two-game sweep with the 8-5 win on Friday night (Nov. 10). Blake Jackson homered for Garnet and scored three runs while Will Tippett plated a pair of runs. Carson Hornung continued his hot series with a two-run double in the fifth.
Matthew Becker struck out five batters in 2.2 innings of work. Connor McCreery and Drake Quinn had two strikeouts apiece while Xavier Pelzer got a strikeout with runners on base in the fourth frame.For Team Black, Cole Messina was a perfect 2-for-2 while Ryan Bakes had two hits and a run scored. On the mound, Tyler Pitzer and Tyler Dean had two strikeouts apiece.
