Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s golf team fired an even-par 288 to put them in seventh place of the 54-hole tournament. The Gamecocks stand at nine-over-par after shooting a 297 on the first day of action at The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga. The third round of play will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5th.
Eirik Johansen (76-67) led the Gamecocks by firing an impressive five-under-par 67 to move him up the leaderboard into a tie for 13th place. Johansen scorched the front nine firing a 31 before playing the back nine in even-par. Johansen’s round included an eagle and six birdies. The 67 by Johansen tied Martin Rominger for the best round of the year. Rominger fired an even-par 72 to keep him at one-under-par for the tournament. Rominger (71-72) had an eagle on hole 12 and used three birdies to keep him in a tie with Johansen for 13th. Alex Hamilton used an eagle on hole 15 to help him fire a one-under-par 71. Hamilton (75-71) jumped up the leaderboard into a tie for 27th.
The final round of the 18-team tournament will be played on Sunday, Oct. 5th. The Gamecocks will begin their round at 8 a.m. with Duke and TCU being the playing partners for USC.
