Ford Earns First SEC Weekly Honor

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Jan. 16, 2024) – South Carolina Track & Field freshman phenom JaMeesia Ford added her first piece of SEC hardware, earning Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week honors. The league office announced its first slew of weekly honors on Tuesday afternoon.

Ford took the world by storm at the Clemson Opener when she ran the second fastest collegiate 300m in NCAA history, running 35.83 for the win. The Fayetteville, N.C. native was at it again in her home opener, breaking the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex facility record in the 300m when she clocked 36 seconds flat for yet another win.

Ford then ran the anchor leg in the women’s 4x400m relay, running just shy of 52 seconds and holding off Tennessee (3:34.57) for the win. Ford aided South Carolina in running 3:31.27 for yet another new facility record. The women’s relay time currently ranks second in the NCAA rankings.

The Gamecocks will be back in action this weekend with a pair of meets. South Carolina will play host to the Carolina Challenge on Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20. Meanwhile, a handful of student-athletes will be making the trip to Boston, Mass. to compete in the Track @ New Balance Collegiate Showdown on Saturday, Jan. 20. The New Balance facility will be the host of the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
