Kosgei Secures SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 6, 2024) – For the fourth consecutive week, the SEC Track & Field Women’s Freshman of the Week honor is making its way to Columbia. As announced by the league office on Tuesday, freshman distance runner Judy Kosgei laid claim to the weekly honor for the Gamecocks.

Kosgei recorded a pair of personal bests in the 800m and the 3,000m at the South Carolina Invite on Saturday. Kosgei began her meet with a win in the 800m after running 2:05.10 for a new program record as well as a new facility record. Her 800m time ranks 25th on the NCAA leaderboard. She then backed that up with a personal best in the 3,000m with a time of 9:24.31 for the win. Kosgei’s time in the 3K ranks second on the Gamecock indoor record book.

Kosgei and a handful of the distance runners will make their way to Boston this weekend for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Feb. 9-10). Meanwhile, the remainder of the squad will head to Clemson, S.C. to compete in the Tiger Paw Classic (Feb. 9-10).
