Gamecocks Secure Three Wins at USC Indoor Open
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 17, 2024) – The final track & field meet of the regular season indoor campaign concluded on Saturday as South Carolina came away with a trio of victories at the USC Indoor Open.
Two of the wins appeared on the men’s side, beginning with freshman sprinter Bryson Miller who made his collegiate debut at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex. The South Carolina native and Oklahoma transfer clocked 47.40 in his 400m debut, coming away with the win for the Gamecocks. Fellow freshman Joshua Kosgei secured a win in the 800m when he ran 1:49.06 for the fifth fastest indoor 800m time in Gamecock history.
The South Carolina men had four more podium finishes on the day. Andrew Bond secured a runner-up finish in the 60 meter sprint after running 6.82, while David Warmington captured a second-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles when he ran 7.97. The final two podium finishes belonged to Ridge Dowe in the men’s weight throw after finishing second with a distance of 17.07m and then Dillon McCarthy who finished third overall and was the top collegian in the men’s pole vault after clearing an indoor personal best height of 5.08m.
On the women’s side, Judy Kosgei laid claim to the lone win after doing so in the 800 meter with a time of 2:06.37. The only other podium finish on the day for the women came from Ashton Lindley who clocked 57.15 in the 400m to finish third overall.
Claudia Satzke and Hannah Togami finished just outside the podium but came away with new personal bests in their respective events. Togami finished fifth overall in the pole vault after clearing a collegiate best height of 3.96m for the eighth best pole vault in Gamecock indoor history. Satzke finished fifth in the women’s mile after joining the sub 5-minute club, running 4:59.89.
South Carolina will now turn its focus to the 2024 SEC Indoor Championship that will take place on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
