Women’s Tennis Notches Pair of Wins
Columbia, S.C. – No. 18 South Carolina women’s tennis competed it’s Sunday doubleheader with a pair of wins – a 4-1 result over No. 61 Charlotte and a 4-0 shutout of No. 67 Charleston Southern. The team has now improved to 7-1 on the season heading into SEC play.
Against the 49ers, the Gamecock dropped the doubles point but was able to get the job done in singles with the team claiming wins on the top three courts and Court 6.
No. 7 Ayana Akli was first to put a point on the board, followed by No. 119 Shahar Biran and Olympe Lancelot – all winning in straight sets. The match was clinched by No. 6 Sarah Hamner at the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
The team came back against the Buccaneers and got back on the right side of the doubles point with Misa Malkin and Elise Mills winning 6-2 on Court 2 and Biran and Lancelot winning by the same margin on Court 3.
In singles, Lancelot got right back to work, breezing through her match to win it 6-1, 6-2. The junior has now won each of her last three dual singles matches after starting the dual season 0-4.
Hamner also recorded her second singles win of the day in straight sets, followed by a clinch by Biran on Court 3.
The women’s tennis team will be back in action to start SEC play on Fri., March 1, traveling to Texas A&M to take on the Aggies.
