COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team won all five games played this week, defeating The Citadel and Davidson in the midweek and sweeping Longwood on the weekend.

NOTES:
The Gamecocks scored the most runs in a game since the 2016 Regional in their 22-6 win over Longwood on March 10. Carolina scored 11 runs in the sixth inning, the most in a single inning since last year’s regional game against Central Connecticut State.
The Gamecocks walked 18 times in Sunday’s win. Twleve different players had at least one walk in the game. Carolina now has 147 walks in 16 games on the year.
Cole Messina had a good weekend at the plate, belting three home runs, two of them in Saturday’s 10-2 win and reaching 11 times in the series. Messina is now slugging .638 on the year.
Tyler Pitzer pitched in two of Carolina’s five games on the week, striking out nine and allowing three hits and no runs in 5.1 innings of work. He earned the win on Wednesday in a rain-shortened game against Davidson.
The Gamecock pitching staff had a 0.92 ERA in five games this week, striking out 52 batters and allowing four earned runs in 39 innings pitched. Eli Jones pitched six scoreless frames on Friday night, striking out five.
Carolina will play its next five games away from home, starting with a game at SRP Park in North Augusta Tuesday night against Georgia State. The Gamecocks open SEC play at Ole Miss this weekend.
