Baseball Falls to Ole Miss in SEC Opener

OXFORD  – The University of South Carolina baseball team opened SEC play with a 5-4 loss at Ole Miss Friday night (March 15) at Swayze Field.

Carolina took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second as Will Tippett double to the gap in right, scoring Parker Noland and Tyler Causey. Ole Miss scored a run in the bottom of the second but the Gamecocks got that run back in the fourth on Dylan Brewer’s RBI groundout.

Ole Miss took the lead in the sixth as Luke Hill brought in a pair of runs with a double to left. The Rebels added another run in the seventh but Carolina answered that run on a fielder’s choice combined with a throwing error that plated Kennedy Jones. Carolina did not score the rest of that inning and went in order in the ninth.

Jones and Noland had two hits apiece to lead the Carolina offense. Eli Jones went five innings on the mound, allowing three runs and five hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
