Carolina comes back down the stretch to take home title ; Harris named co-champion after final round, bogey free 67 (-3)
NEWTON, N.C. – South Carolina came back from a five-shot deficit down the stretch to win the Wofford Invitational on Tuesday, the team’s first victory of the season. The Gamecocks fired the round of the day with a 276 (-4). Redshirt sophomore Frankie Harris had a bogey free 67 (-3) to lead the team as he was co-champion of the event with Wofford’s Cedric Otten.
Harris shot 208 (-2) and led the field with 43 pars on the par-72 layout at Catawba Country Club. It’s his second win this season and his team-leading fourth top-five of the season.
Sophomore Zach Adams and senior Rafe Reynolds each posted red numbers today as they finished T-8th at 2-over for the tournament. Adams shot 68 (-2) with four birdies and an eagle. It marked his first career round in the 60s and his 54-hole total of 212 was a new career-best mark.
Reynolds shot 69 (-1) with a trio of birdies on his scorecard. It marked his third top-10 of the season and the seventh of his career.
Sixth-year Lansdon Robbins was the final counting score for Carolina in round three with a 72 (+2). Freshman Bo Carpenter shot 75 (+5) today but finished T-18th at 7-over for the tournament for his first career top-20 in Garnet & Black.
The victory marks the Gamecocks’ 29th win under head coach Bill McDonald, the winningest coach in program history.
Carolina heads to St. Simons Island, Ga. Next week for the 2024 SEC Men’s Golf Championship (April 24-28). This marks the 23rd the SEC Championship will be played at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course.
