Sept. 24, 2003

Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s tennis team start their 2003 Fall schedule on Friday, September 26 in Greenville, South Carolina at the Furman Fall Classic. The Gamecocks return only two starters from a year ago but have brought in some talented freshman to fill the void left behind by Kathy Boyanovich and Jodi Kenoyer.

Danielle Wiggins is the top returnee for the Gamecocks as she looks to lead the team and provide leadership for four true freshmen. The Gamecocks will use the fall schedule to gather experience for their newcomers but this weekend’s tournament will be a hard task to do as three of the nine schools were ranked in the top 20 of the final Omni Hotels’ Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Competing in the 2003 Furman Fall Classic are the following: Clemson, Furman, Iowa, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina, Penn State, Vanderbilt, and Wisconsin.

Results will be posted at 9:30pm on Friday, 8:30pm on Saturday, and Sunday by 4pm on Furman’s website; www.furmanpaladins.com
