COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 2-2 on the week, defeating The Citadel in Charleston in the midweek and winning the second game of a three-game set vs. No. 2 Arkansas.

NOTES:
Austin Brinling, who made his first starts as a Gamecocks this past weekend, went 4-for-10 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI and three walks in the three-game series with Arkansas. Brinling, a transfer from North Florida, had two hits and an RBI in the 6-3 win over the Razorbacks in game one on Saturday.

Will Tippett had his third home run of the season in the seventh inning of Tuesday’s 4-3 win over The Citadel, which turned out to be the game-winning run and RBI. In the last 10 games, Tippett has six hits and a .636 slugging percentage.

Matthew Becker picked up his team-best fifth win of the season on Saturday as he did not allow a hit in 2.1 innings of relief while striking out a pair. Becker has 42 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched this season.

Cole Messina earned his 100th career RBI in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader with Arkansas. Messina had two RBI in the game and is second on the team with 35 RBI this season.

At the 40-game mark this season, Carolina currently stands at No. 13 in the RPI and has 10 quad 1 wins, which is tied for third nationally. The Gamecocks are tied with Alabama for most quad 1 games played with 21. In the SEC standings as of April 20, Carolina is tied for fourth with Georgia in the East, one game back of Vanderbilt.

Carolina has the midweek off due to final exams and will return to action next weekend (April 26-28) against No. 3 Kentucky.
