Gamecocks Fall in Second Game of Series
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team (33-20, 8-15) dropped game two of its series with No. 13 Missouri (39-14, 12-11) 4-2 Saturday afternoon (May 4).
The Gamecocks out-hit the Tigers 9-to-8 on the day. Zoe Laneaux, Aniyah Black, and Bre Warren led Carolina with two hits.
Alana Vawter (15-11) threw a complete game, allowing three earned runs and striking out a pair.
The Tigers jumped out to the lead in the first, scoring twice. The added an unearned run in the third.
Carolina got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the third. With one out, Kianna Jones doubled to left center. She scored when Black singled to center.
Missouri added another run in the fifth, but again the Gamecocks answered. Black singled with one out and Warren doubled two pitches later. Vawter lifted a fly ball to center, allowing Black to score from third for the sacrifice fly.
South Carolina brought the tying run to the plate in both the sixth and seventh but were unable to finish the rally.
The series finale is tomorrow at 3 p.m. Prior to the game South Carolina will honor its eight seniors.
