Aniyah Black Named to SEC Community Service Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina softball player Aniyah Black has been named to the SEC Community Service Team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, May 7.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
Black, a senior from Chauncey, Georgia, has played in 52 games, splitting time between first base and designated player. She is hitting .286 and is second on the team in hits (40), home runs (5), RBIs (30), and slugging percentage (.450). She has been on the President’s List and Dean’s List twice while pursuing a degree in retailing. She was named to the 2020-21 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll and the 2023 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Black has been an active member in the Columbia community the past two years, accumulating nearly 22 hours during her time at South Carolina. While at Carolina, she has worked regularly with local schools through various programs, including the Generation Gamecock Middle Mentoring Program. With the program, Black serves as a role model, advocate, and ally for middle school mentoring program. She provides support and assistance to teachers, counselors, and staff during instructional time. Black has also spent time visiting Conder Elementary School and participating in Read Across America Day at Carver Lyon Elementary School.
She has volunteered with Harvest Hope Food Bank, where she gathers, packages, and delivers food to food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and schools around the state. Black also volunteered with South Carolina’s MLK Day of Service where she taught softball to children.
Prior to joining South Carolina, she volunteered with Extra Special People in Georgia. With the program, she assisted with after school programs and community events to increase social performance among special needs and underprivileged kids. Black successfully executed 40-50 student engagement activities per semester raising student satisfaction by 80%.
