EUGENE, Ore. (June 5, 2024) – South Carolina Track & Field opened the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championship on Wednesday afternoon as the men scored six points on the first day of competition. In addition to earning six points, the Gamecock men were also responsible for five All-American nods.

Dylan Targgart, bronze medalist at the NCAA Indoor Championship, secured all six points for Carolina on Wednesday. The veteran thrower earned another bronze medal, earning First Team All-American honors as he threw 20.23m (66-4.25) in the shot put. Targgart was also the first scorer in the outdoor shot put for the Garnet & Black since Josh Awotunde finished runner up in 2018. Fellow teammate, CJ Licata, secured Second Team All-American nods.

Anass Essayi kicked the event off for the Gamecocks in the 1500m semifinals, finishing second overall in his heat with a time of 3:39.75 to earn an automatic bid into Friday’s finale.

In addition to the pair of shot put All-Americans, the Gamecocks saw three more All-American honors come from Nyck Harbor and Channing Ferguson. Harbor earned a pair of Second Team All-American spots in the 100m and the 200m.
