Gamecocks Set for Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis heads to Greenville, S.C., for the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C., and, due to predicted inclement weather, the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C. The Gamecocks are one of 13 teams in the event, which features nine singles and four doubles flights.

South Carolina is sending six players to the event, each competing in a different singles bracket. Junior transfer Kaitlyn Carnicella is in the Singles 1 Flight with six ranked players, including her first-round opponent No. 46 Petra Sedlackova of Alabama. Senior Misa Malkin could face either of the two ranked players joining her in the Singles 2 Flight, though she will open with Alejandra Cruz of Georgia Tech.

Freshman Jana Stojanova and senior Olympe Lancelot, are in the Singles 5 and 6 Flights, respectively. Senior transfer Lauren Friedman and sophomore Anna Kantor round out the group in the Singles 8 and 9 Flights, respectively.

Malkin and Carnicella pair up in Doubles Flight 1, facing No. 7 Guillermina Grant and Mai Nirundorn of Georgia in the opening round. Lancelot and Stojanova are slotted into the Doubles 3 Flight, and Friedman and Kantor pair up for the Doubles 4 Flight.

Friday’s action will begin indoors at 9 a.m. with the Gamecocks playing one round of singles and one round of doubles in Greenville. Live streaminf of select matches is available via TrackTennis.
