Lancelot Paces Gamecocks at Debbie Southern
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Senior Olympe Lancelot posted a pair of wins to lead South Carolina women’s tennis on the opening day of the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic at the Mickel Tennis Center on Friday.
Lancelot opened the day pairing with freshman Jana Stojanova to breeze past their Ohio State opponents 6-2 in Flight 3 Doubles action Friday morning. Later, the second-year Gamecock edged Furman’s Ellie Schulson in a first-set tiebreak 7-6(3) before cruising to a 6-2 second set to post her first singles win of the season.
Another Gamecock duo picked up a doubles victory in the opening round with senior transfer Lauren Friedman and sophomore Anna Kantor powering through a 7-6(4) tiebreak win over another team from Ohio State in Flight 4.
In singles, Gamecock newcomer Kaitlyn Carnicella pushed the No. 46 player in the nation, Petra Sedlackova of Alabama, to three sets in Flight 1 action.
All six Gamecocks will be back in action on Saturday with another round of singles and doubles. Live streaming of select matches is available via TrackTennis.
