Gamecock Throwers Compete at Buccaneer Invitational
Paul finishes second to lead Gamecocks in the hammer throw
CHARLESTON, S.C. — The University of South Carolina track & field throws squad was in action Friday on the opening day of the Buccaneer Invitational. South Carolina competed in the hammer throw at Jim Settle Track, with Malik Paul leading the way.
Paul paced the Gamecocks on the men’s side, finishing in second place. His best effort, 50.31m (165-1), topped his previous career best by over three meters, and he was the top collegiate finisher of the competition.
Freshman Isaiah Davenport competed in his first-career collegiate hammer throw on Friday, and he finished sixth. Davenport’s best attempt of the day was measured at 46.39m (152-2).
On the women’s side, Nina Gambacorta finished fourth to lead South Carolina. Her best effort checked in at 40.86m (134-1) on Friday.

The majority of the Buccaneer Invitational will be contested Saturday at Jim Settle Track, with the action beginning at 11 a.m. ET.
