Gamecocks Claim Best DRI Finish in Program History

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – No. 10 South Carolina women’s golf finished the 2019 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate with an impressive round, carding a 286 (+2) as a team to finish in a tie for second place at Long Cove Club.
 
“They really hung in there today,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “It was really solid golf, smart golf. The hole locations were really difficult.”
 
“To come in here and finish second, to be honest with you, with the amount of ranked teams the overall finish was excellent,” Anderson added. “[Long Cove Club] was a great venue, a national championship type venue.”
 
No. 19 Florida State (850, -2) claimed the individual title as a team, with South Carolina (867, +15), Wake Forest (867, +15), Duke (869, +17), Auburn (882, +30) and Vanderbilt (882, +30) wrapping up the top five.

For the fourth tournament in a row, junior Lois Kaye Go finished in the top 10. Her 216 (+3) is her second-best score of the 2018-19 season. Her consistent play showing in that she finished all three rounds with a 1-over 72.
 
Senior Marion Veysseyre and freshman Emily Price each completed the final round with a 1-over 72 to finish in a tie for 12th. Price began the round with nine-straight pars, and finished the back nine 1-over. Veysseyre sank one birdie and one bogey on her opening eight holes before ripping off eight-straight pars for her second-best round of the weekend.
 
The best third round for the Gamecocks came from junior Ana Pelaez. She started her round with a birdie before sinking 17 straight pars to end the round with a 1-under 70, tying her best score of the 2018-19 season, and good enough for a tie for 30th.
 
“[Ana] was clutch today,” Anderson said of Pelaez. “We needed that. [Lois Kaye Go] battled through some stuff and brought in two huge birdies coming in. [Marion Veysseyre] had a really solid week. Emily had a solid week. All five of them played really steady.”
 
Fellow junior Anita Uwadia connected on a pair of birdie putts in her final round at Long Cove Club. She recorded a score of 37 on both the front and back nine to finish with a 3-over 74 and in a tie for 36th.
 
Senior Gaby Amos wrapped up her weekend with a pair of birdies and an 8-over 79 to finish in a tie for 58th.  
 
Overall in the tournament, Florida State took over the lead during the second round, and extended its lead to as much as 15 strokes during Sunday’s round. The Seminoles 2-under 850 is a tournament record, breaking Duke’s 2015 record of 858.
 
Frida Kinhult of Florida State took home the individual title, keeping pace and eventually separating from the defending NCAA Champion, Jennifer Kupcho (210, -3) of Wake Forest, who finished in a tie for second with Alabama’s Angelica Moresco (210, -3). Kinhult finished with a 204, an individual tournament record, breaking the previous record held by former Alabama golfer, and current LPGA player, Cheyenne Knight (205) that was set in 2017.
 
Carolina’s next tournament is the Evans Derby Experience in Auburn, Ala. The Gamecocks will compete at the Auburn University Club on March 23-25.
