The Gamecocks went 2-2 on the week, including a walk-off win over No. 3 N.C. State

COLUMBIA –The University of South Carolina baseball team went 2-2 on the week, including a 10-8 win over No. 3 North Carolina State as the Gamecocks won on a walk-off home run from Jacob Olson.

NOTES:
The Gamecocks won on Tuesday night in Charlotte, defeating No. 3 North Carolina State, 10-8, on senior Jacob Olson’s walk-off two-run home run. Carolina scored seven runs in the first inning with home runs from Luke Berryhill, Olson and Brady Allen. Olson had multiple home runs for the third time this season and he is now tied for the lead in the SEC with 12 round trippers.

Carolina won the series finale against Alabama, winning an extra-inning game for the first time this season. The Gamecocks came away with a 5-4 win in 12 innings as TJ Hopkins scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 12th. George Callil had a game-saving diving grab in the top of the 10th while Brett Kerry pitched 5.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

Kerry allowed just two hits and struck out four in his 5.2 innings of relief in Saturday’s win. He retired the final seven batters faced and got crucial final outs with runners in scoring position in the ninth and 10th innings. On the season, Kerry is 3-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched.

TJ Hopkins had three hits in Saturday’s win at Alabama, upping his batting average to .305 on the year. Hopkins also leads the team with 10 stolen bases as his 10th of the season led to the game-winning run. Hopkins is one RBI away from 100 in his career as he has 29 on the season.

The Gamecocks play their first home game of the month of April this Tuesday (April 9) as Carolina hosts Charlotte before travelling to Gainesville, Fla., to face Florida in its second Thursday-Saturday series. Thursday’s game will be televised on ESPNU.
