Track & Field National Champions to Throw Out First Pitch at April 9 Baseball Game

Carolina track stars to celebrate NCAA title at Founders Park

COLUMBIA, S.C. — University of South Carolina track & field student-athletes Aliyah Abrams, Stephanie Davis, Wadeline Jonathas and Tatyana Mills continue their national championship celebration next week as they throw out the first pitch before Carolina’s baseball game against Charlotte, scheduled for Tuesday, April 9. Abrams, Davis, Jonathas and Mills will simultaneously throw out the first pitch prior to the 7 p.m. matchup with the 49ers at Founders Park.

Abrams, Davis, Jonathas and Mills won the women’s 4x400m relay national championship last month at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The quartet’s time of 3:30.76 just beat out Texas A&M (3:30.85) and Arkansas (3:30.86) for the program’s first 4×4 national title since 2007. Carolina was in third place when Jonathas took the stick for the anchor leg, but the junior passed both the Aggies and the Gators on the final lap to secure Carolina’s 47th NCAA event crown.

Abrams was a double podium finisher at the NCAA meet, adding a second-place finish in the 400 meters. The quartet has continued their success in the outdoor season, where they currently hold the fastest 4x400m time in the nation and the second-fastest time in the world.
