2009: Claimed bronze medal honors in the heptathlon at the SEC Indoor Championships with a personal best 5,325 points … in the heptathlon at SEC[apos]s, won the high jump with a clearance of 6-6 3/4 … took fifth in the shot put at 40-1 1/4 … ran 8.58 in the 60m hurdles and 7.26 in the 60m dash … cleared a season best 12-7 1/2 in the pole vault … indoors, had a long jump best of 22-0 3/4 at the Tyson Invitational … outdoors, competed at the Shamrock Invitational before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.
2008: Named South Carolina[apos]s indoor field rookie of the year … Opened the season with a third place finish in the heptathlon at the On Track Open … placed sixth at the SEC Indoor Championships with 4,937 points … won the 1,000m run in the heptathlon at the SEC[apos]s at 2:38.64 … placed 11th at the New Balance Invitational in the 500m at 1:04.67 … took second in the high jump at the Tiger Invitational with a height of 6-3 ½ … indoor best marks of 22-5 in the long jump, 46-6 ¾ in the tripe jump and 6-4 ¼ in the high jump … outdoors, placed 12th in the decathlon at the SEC Outdoor Championships with 6,405 points … won the 1,500m run in the decathlon at the SEC Outdoors at 4:28.36 … took fourth in the decathlon at the Shamrock Invitational … outdoor best marks of 6-1 ½ in the high jump and 21-7 ¼ in the long jump.
2007: Competed in numerous events for South Carolina during the outdoor season … came in sixth in the triple jump at a distance of 43-10 at the Jim Click Shootout … jumped 20-6 1/4 in the long jump at the same meet … placed third in the triple jump at the Weems Baskin Relays at a personal-best 47-9 … took first in triple jump at the Florida Relays with a jump of 46-0 3/4 … took second at the Spec Towns National Invite at a distance of 47-5 … recorded a 45-1 at the SEC Outdoor Championships to take 13th overall.
HIGH SCHOOL: Coached by Mike Moore at Irmo High School … lettered in track all four years at Irmo while picking up two letters in football … an all-state selection in the triple jump as a junior and senior … all-state in the 800m in 2006 … received all-area accolades for the triple jump his senior year … as a senior, Pierce picked up all-region awards for the triple and high jumps as well as the 800m … named team MVP as a junior and senior … served as team captain those same years … set the school record in the 800m his senior season … personal record in high school for the triple jump was 47-11 1/2 … was a member of National Honor Society … graduated with honors from Irmo.
PERSONAL: Jonathan Scott Pierce was born Sept. 24, 1987, in Charleston, S.C. … parents are Jon and Jane Pierce … is a Palmetto Fellows scholarship holder at South Carolina … enrolled in South Carolina[apos]s Honors College … pursuing a degree in psychology and pre-law … chose South Carolina because it was an opportunity to combine a quality education in the Honors College with a chance to compete with one of the best track and field programs in the country … picked South Carolina over Wake Forest and Cornell.
