Chance Honored as SEC Co-Runner of the Week
Senior ran world's fastest 400m time of 2019 last week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of South Carolina track & field senior Arinze Chance has been named Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Men’s Co-Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Chance shares the honor with Florida’s Grant Holloway, and it’s his first-career SEC weekly honor.
Chance lit the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex on fire last Friday, running 46.15 to win the 400m Invite at the Gamecock Inaugural. That time is a Carolina indoor program record, a Guyanese national record and the fastest time in the world this year.
On Saturday, Chance ran leadoff on Carolina’s winning 4x400m relay squad. The team’s time of 3:10.56 ranks 15th in the NCAA through two weeks of indoor competition.
Chance is the second Gamecock in as many weeks to be honored by the SEC. Redshirt junior Aliyah Abrams was named SEC Women’s Runner of the Week last week.
The Gamecocks are back in action this weekend at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge. The meet runs Jan. 25-26 at The Armory in New York City.
