Gamecocks Wrap up Regular Season Matches in Texas

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 21 South Carolina women’s tennis team hits the road for its last away stretch of the regular season this week to take on a pair of top-15 teams. The Gamecocks will go to College Station to play No. 2 Texas A&M on Friday, April 11 at 6:00 p.m. (ET) before heading to No. 14 Texas on Sunday, April 13 for a 1:00 p.m. (ET) regular season finale.

Gamecock Notables

  • Records: 13-8 (overall), 8-5 (SEC), 9-2 (home), 3-5 (away)
  • In the SEC standings, the Gamecocks sit in the middle of the field at eighth.
  • South Carolina split its home matches last week, sweeping Missouri 4-0 and falling just short of a comeback in a 5-2 loss to then-No. 13 Vanderbilt.
  • Against Missouri, pairs of Olympe Lancelot & Bella Larsson and Lauren Friedman & Misa Malkin won their doubles matches 6-4 against the Tigers to take the doubles point. Sarah Hamner (7-5, 1-0 retired), Larsson (6-0, 6-1) and Lancelot (6-2, 6-1) won their singles matches to complete the sweep.
  • In the Vanderbilt match, the Commodores took the doubles point to claim an early edge. Kaitlyn Carnicella and Hamner were battling against No. 14 Celia-Belle Mohr and Sophia Webster with the match tied at 5-5, but the Commodores picked up wins at the second and third positions before the Gamecocks had a chance to finish. Vanderbilt extended its lead to 2-0 when Friedman fell on court six, followed by No. 45 Bridget Stammel defeating Lancelot to increase the score to 3-0. Hamner put the Gamecocks’ first point on the board when she took down No. 16 Mohr 7-5, 6-1 before the Commodores ultimately clinched the match with a win on court 4. Carnicella scored South Carolina’s last point after winning her second set on a tie break 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).
  • Hamner (No. 13) and Carnicella (No. 58) earned season high singles rankings in the latest edition of the ITA rankings. The two are No. 21 in doubles play while Lancelot & Carnicella round out the rankings for the Gamecocks at No. 85.

Scouting the Aggies

  • Records: 21-2 (overall), 21-1 (SEC), 11-0 (home), (8-1) away
  • Texas A&M sits at 2nd place in the SEC standings.
  • The Aggies’ two losses have come from No. 1 Georgia in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship and from then-No. 16 Vanderbilt on the road in conference play.
  • Texas A&M enters the match on a six-match winning streak, looking to keep its perfect record at home intact.
  • Mary Stoiana (No. 2), Nicole Khirin (No. 14), Lucciana Perez (No. 51), Mia Kupres (No. 68) and Daria Smetannikov (No. 90) represent the Aggies in the ITA rankings. The duo of Stoiana and Perez round out the rankings at No. 38 in doubles.
  • Stojanova has a 14-2 singles record riding on a five-match win streak while Perez is 15-2 and undefeated in SEC play (10-0), playing tomorrow on an 11-match win streak.

Scouting the Longhorns

  • Records: 13-9 (overall), 7-6 (SEC), 7-3 (home), 5-4 (away)
  • Texas comes in at 9th in the SEC Standings.
  • The Longhorns are on a three-match win streak entering the weekend. They host No. 1 Georgia on Friday before playing the Gamecocks.
  • Carmen Andreea Herea (No. 32), Sabina Zeynalova (No. 56), Ester Meri (No. 74), Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo (No. 82) and Ashton Bowers (No. 93) represent Texas in the ITA rankings. The duos of Bowers & Anazagasty-Pursoo (No. 24) and Bowers & Zeynalova (No. 52) round out the rankings.

Series History

  • The Gamecocks lead a close all-time series against the Aggies 11-10, but they have not defeated Texas A&M since 2020.
  • The Gamecocks lead the all-time series against the Longhorns 3-2. This will be the first time the two teams have met since 2018 and the first time they play eachother in a conference matchup.
