No. 9 Gamecocks Fall to No. 1 Auburn, 18-2

Master Score Sheet

AUBURN, Ala. – South Carolina sophomore Tyler Petrie notched the first win of her collegiate career against No. 1-ranked Auburn on Friday at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.

Petrie’s point was just one of two as No. 9 South Carolina (0-2) fell, 18-2, to the Tigers (2-0).

“We certainly have to work harder,” head coach Boo Major said. “I think there were some good moments here and there. I’m certainly proud of Tyler Petrie for getting her first point of her college career. Bridgett (White) did a great job winning against an All-American from last year.”

Competing in equitation over fences, Petrie outscored her opponent by four, winning the point, 86-82, on Duell against Emma Kurtz.

Senior Bridgett White earned Carolina’s second point of the day in reining. White edged out All-American Terri June Granger on Huck with a score of 69-68.5.

“There were a lot of circumstances where we could have won versus losing in a lot of situations, but it just didn’t work for us (Friday),” Major said. “It is what it is and we have to put it behind us and get prepared for another very good team in Georgia. We need to get over this pretty quickly and get home to our home territory.”

Up next, the Gamecocks will host Georgia on Friday, October 5 at 11 a.m., at One Wood Farm in Blythewood.
