BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Three members of the University of South Carolina track & field team opened their summer seasons over the weekend at the 2018 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships. Stephanie Davis and Caitlyn Little were in action on the track, while KD Young competed in two field events on the University of Indiana campus.
Young was the highest finisher among the Gamecocks, finishing fourth in the shot put on Sunday. The Decatur, Ill., native threw 52-8 (16.05m), her best effort of the season and her first effort over 16 meters since joining the Carolina program.
Young also competed in the hammer throw on Saturday, finishing ninth at junior nationals. After fouling on her first attempt, the rising sophomore came back to throw 168-8 (51.43m) on her last effort.
Little took part in the 100m hurdles and grabbed the final qualifying spot with a run of 13.60 in prelims on Saturday afternoon. She came back Saturday night after a lengthy rain delay and moved up to seventh place after stopping the clock at 13.55.
Davis was in action for the first time since earning All-America honors at her first career NCAA Outdoor Championships. The rising sophomore ran the 400m prelims on Saturday afternoon and just missed a trip to finals by finishing in ninth place. Her time was 53.18, by far her best mark of the year.
