May 30, 2018
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s golf rising junior Ana Pelaez and recent Gamecock graduate Ainhoa Olarra are set to compete at the 2018 Spanish Ladies International Amateur Championship.
The 72-hole event will be contested at the Real Club de Golf of Cerdanya in Girona, Spain, and take place May 31 – June 3. There will be a cut following 54 holes of action before Sunday’s final round.
Olarra, who won the 2013 Spanish Ladies International Amateur Championship, closed her decorated collegiate career earlier this month at the 2018 NCAA San Francisco Regional. The San Sebastian, Spain, native posted the lowest single-season stroke average (71.00) in program history as a senior and notched two individual victories in her final year with the Gamecocks.
Pelaez enters this week’s event with one of the top handicaps among the 121 golfers in the field. The Malaga, Spain, native ranked fourth on Carolina with a 74.07 scoring average and tallied three top-25 finishes this past season. Her 73.12 career stroke average currently ranks eighth all-time among Gamecocks.
