Athletics Announces Reimagination Plans for Williams-Brice Stadium Following State Approvals
The University of South Carolina and Gamecock Athletics are excited to announce that it has received formal approval to begin a multi-year construction project that will reimagine Williams-Brice Stadium.
The Williams-Brice Reimagined project is rooted in four key pillars:
- For All: This project is not just for a subset of Gamecock Fans. During the reimagination of Williams-Brice Stadium, our department and partners will focus on creating an enhanced game day experience that will build lasting memories for present and future generations with inspiring admiration from visiting fans.
- Legacy & Tradition: This project will focus on the history of Williams-Brice Stadium and what it means to be a Gamecock. It will bridge the nostalgia and tradition of the past, while creating enthusiasm for the future.
- Home: This project will create a place of belonging that brings fans together and fosters South Carolinian camaraderie.
- Pride of the State: This project is more than just a football stadium; it will create a year-round venue that highlights the beauty and culture of South Carolina.
The project will focus on three key areas for reimagination:
- Overall Fan Experience: This project will touch on four key areas of improvement
- Stadium Circulation – How fans move around the stadium
- Concessions – Improvements that provide more offerings and quicker service
- Restrooms – Increasing the number to reduce wait times
- The Cockpit – Improving the overall student experience and providing more amenities to current USC students
- Premium Offerings: Currently, Williams-Brice Stadium ranks last among SEC peers in total premium seating as a percentage of capacity compared to its peers. This project will seek to significantly increase the number of premium seats, clubs and suites as well as significantly enhance the offerings for fans in those areas.
- Student-Athlete Experience: The football team’s space inside Williams-Brice Stadium will be completely redesigned including a new team lobby/recruit lounge, locker room with new lockers, equipment room, training room, player holding area, interview room and new male and female trainer’s locker rooms. Additionally, to assist with back-of-house operation on the ground level, the visiting team locker room will be moved to the southeast corner of Williams-Brice Stadium.
“I would like to thank the Joint Bond Review Committee and the State Fiscal Accountability Authority of the State of South Carolina for approving this project,” said USC Athletics Director Jeremiah Donati. “In the coming months, we will be able to show Gamecock fans some of the finalized concepts we believe will be excited about as these plans will significantly elevate their game day experience. Once complete, the stadium project will create new revenue streams to support the long-term success of Gamecock Athletics while providing our fans and donors with a first-class game day experience,” said Donati.
Construction on the project will commence following the conclusion of the 2025 season and be completed in three phases between the 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 football seasons. The first phase between 2025-26 seasons will be the renovation of the general concourses and student section, the second phase between the 2026-27 seasons will include the premium areas including the 100-200 sections and the third phase between the 2027-28 seasons will include the southeast corner of the stadium.
Populous, a leading venue design firm, has completed more than 3,500 projects across the globe over 40 years, and Legends, a global premium experiences company, to enhance the fan experience at Gamecock sporting events, are playing a lead role in the project.
USC Athletics has also partnered with construction firms Contract Construction, based in Irmo, S.C., and Manhattan Construction Company, headquartered in Tulsa, Okla., that will work together on the project.
