Rising senior to compete August 6-12 in Berlin

PARIS, France — University of South Carolina track & field rising senior Yann Randrianasolo has been selected to the France national team that will compete at the 2018 European Athletics Championships. Randrianasolo will compete as one of three French participants in the men’s long jump.

The 2018 European Athletics Championships will be held Aug. 6-12 in Berlin, Germany. Qualifying rounds of the men’s long jump will take place Monday, Aug. 6, with the final scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 8.

A Toulouse, France, native, Randrianasolo reached a new level as a Gamecock during the 2018 collegiate season. He earned the silver medal at the SEC Indoor Championships and finished as an All-American at the NCAA indoor and outdoor meets. He finished the season with new personal bests indoors (7.89m) and outdoors (7.99m), with the latter mark ranking second in Carolina history.

Randrianasolo carried his strong run of form over to the summer international season, hitting eight meters for the first time on June 23 in a winning effort at the Albi National Meeting. He went on to finish third and the Tarragona Mediterranean Games and fifth at the French Championships before representing his nation at the inaugural Athletics World Cup, where he placed seventh at the London Olympic Stadium on July 15.

Randrianasolo’s season best of 8.01m, set June 23 in Albi, ranks 27th on the 2017-18 European men’s long jump qualifying list.

Randrianasolo isn’t the only Gamecock who will suit up internationally before the summer is through. Eric Favors will throw the shot put at the Irish National Championships on Sunday, July 29. The competition is scheduled to begin at 9:35 a.m. ET (3:35 p.m. local time) at Morton Stadium in Dublin.
