Lexi Wagner Named Softball Director of Player Engagement
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Head softball coach Ashley Chastain Woodard announced the addition of Lexi Wagner to her staff ahead of the 2026 season. Wagner will serve as the director of player engagement.
“Lexi may be new to Columbia but is no stranger to our staff as she played for us at Charlotte and then worked under us as a graduate manager prior to beginning her own career in coaching,” Chastain Woodard said. “Bringing Lexi back on our staff feels like welcoming someone back home as we have a lot of experience and trust already built.
“Building a winning culture and team takes a village of the right people and she holds so much value and knowledge of our player development system. The players will love having her around, drawing from her ability to relate to them and being an encouraging source of confidence when they need a sounding board. We are fortunate to add her to our staff as our director of player engagement, and I foresee her adding to our program’s success as we take the next step forward.”
Wagner joins the Gamecocks after spending the 2025 season as an assistant coach and working with the offense at Abilene Christian University. She helped the team to a fourth-place finish in the WAC standings and reach the conference tournament for the first time in three years. Under her guidance, Taylor Bachmeyer hit 12 doubles, which ranked fourth in a single season in ACU’s Division I history.
Prior to ACU, Wagner was a graduate assistant on Chastain Woodard’s staff at Charlotte for the 2024 season. She served as the first base coach and helped with the offense, baserunning, and outfielders.
Wagner played her final two years at Charlotte after spending her first three seasons at Oregon. From 2022-23 with the 49ers, she combined to play in 114 games with 112 starts, totaling 44 hits, 43 runs, 18 RBIs, 12 doubles and four home runs. She earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors during the 2023 season.
Her playing career began with the Ducks where she started 68 games and played in 98 from 2019-2021. She showed her defensive versatility making starts at right field, left field, first base, third base, and designed player.
Wagner was named the 2018 Gatorade Pennsylvania Softball Player of the Year and was ranked as the No. 73 recruit in the nation. She was also named a 2018 Premier Girls Fastpitch Northeast Region All-American.
Wagner earned her bachelor’s degree from Charlotte in psychology with a minor in women’s and gender studies.
