Gamecocks Defeat Hurricanes in Opening Match of ITA Kickoff
DURHAM, N.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team defeated Miami (Fla.), 4-1, during the first round of competition at the ITA Kickoff on Friday afternoon. The Gamecocks will face No. 8 Duke on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The duo of Kaitlyn Carnicella and Taylor Goetz opened the match on court one, securing the first doubles victory after a back-and-forth battle. Jane Dunyon and Jana Stojanova clinched the doubles point for the Gamecocks from the third position, winning 6-3.
South Carolina turned in a strong singles performance, earning three straight-set victories. Helena Buchwald posted a 6-3, 6-3 win on court two, while Sara Borkop followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory from the third spot. Taylor Goetz battled on court four to earn a 6-2, 7-5 decision over No. 101 Sebastianna Scilipoti. Jane Dunyon rebounded after dropping the first set to even her match before play was halted.
