Track & Field Sets Pair of Program Records on Day One in Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Jan. 30, 2026) – South Carolina Track & Field continues to shine early in the season, setting a pair of program records on the opening day of the Razorback Invitational on Friday in Fayetteville, Ark. The Gamecocks are competing at the Tyson Indoor Track Center, the site of the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championship and are up for the challenge with six new Top 10 program marks.

The Gamecock women were responsible for the two new program records on Friday evening. Jathiyah Muhammad, already the current indoor pole vault record holder, improved on her program record after clearing 4.50m (14-9) for the win. Muhammad’s new personal best clearance also pushes her into second on the NCAA leaderboard this season. The second record of the day belonged to the women’s distance medley relay squad of Jade Buridon, Akala Garrett, Eline Mast and Salma Elbadra. The quartet finished third overall in the DMR event but set a new school record with a time of 10:51.52 to rank fourth in the NCAA this season.

Alexis Brown and Tristen Harris improved on their own respective Top 10 marks with Brown running 23.15 in the 200m and Harris jumping 6.33m (20-9.25) in the long jump, both finishing fourth overall in their events. Brown, currently ninth in school history in the 200m, moves into sixth in the NCAA this season. Meanwhile, Harris further solidifies her fifth place standing on the Gamecock long jump leaderboard.

Sylvia Chelangat and JaMeesia Ford joined Muhammad in the win category on Friday evening. Chelangat captured the 800m crown after clocking 2:06.45 in her 800m season debut, while Ford ran a new facility record in the 300m after crossing the line in 36.12.

As for the men, the Gamecocks recorded two new Top 10 program identifiers. Khaliq Muhammad kicked things off with a sixth-place finish in the men’s pole vault, clearing a new personal best height of 5.30m (17-4.5) to jump into seventh all time in program history. In the next event for the men, Edouard Lecrivain recorded the fourth fastest indoor 800m in school history with a mark of 1:48.40 to finish ninth overall.
