Gamecocks Secure Four Wins in Final Day of Carolina Classic

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 7, 2026) – South Carolina Track & Field concluded the weekend with day two of the Carolina Classic at the Sheila & Morris Cregger Indoor Track in Columbia. The Gamecocks competed in 17 combined events between the two days, securing eight overall wins, including four in day two.

The women’s team competed in five events and recorded two wins, both resulting in Top 10 program marks. The first win of the day was in the mile, with Teresa Cherotich clocking a time of 4:48.87 to rank 10th in program history in her mile debut. The second win came from Tristen Harris, who reached a new personal best in the long jump, recording 6.45m (21-2) to jump into fourth in program history. In addition, she now ranks 11th on the NCAA leaderboard for the women’s long jump.

Other notable results were Jathiyah Muhammad and Bella Leonard, finishing second and third in the women’s pole vault. Muhammad cleared 4.28m (14-0.5), while Leonard vaulted 3.68m (12-0.75). Alexis Brown also recorded a third-place finish in the women’s 200m, clocking 23.41.

On the men’s side, there were two wins recorded in the four events the squad appeared in. In the 200m, Josiah Wrice claimed first with a time of 21.00, setting a new personal record for himself. Not far behind him was Jasauna Dennis in second, with a time of 21.15 in his first 200m appearance of the season. The second win of the day came from Logan Montgomery in the shot put, where he threw a personal best distance of 19.25m (63-2), moving up to seventh in program history.

Carlos Lanzagorta-Ruiz also moved up the all-time program leaderboard in the men’s mile, finishing second with a time of 4:05.87, sliding into seventh in school history and setting a new personal best. Trailing closely was Marcellus Mines who finished third with a time of 4:08.24 in his season debut in the mile. The Gamecock men recorded another runner-up finish in the men’s shot put in the form of Brandon Dennis, throwing 16.90m (55-5.5).

South Carolina will be back in action next weekend as the Gamecocks will compete in a pair of meets. The Garnet & Black will travel to the Upstate for the third time this indoor season, taking part in the Tiger Paw Invitational on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14. Meanwhile, the distance crew will return to Boston for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14.
