No. 17 Women's Tennis Hosts Pair of SEC Matches
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis will face a pair of ranked SEC opponents this weekend when the host No. 9 LSU on Thu., Feb. 26, at noon and No. 32 Ole Miss on Sat., Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at Carolina Tennis Center.
ITA RANKINGS
- South Carolina stands at No. 17 in the latest ITA Team Top-25 Poll.
- The Gamecocks have four singles and doubles entries in the latest individual rankings.
- Kaitlyn Carnciella sits 63rd in singles competition.
- The duo of Lauren Friedman and Helena Buchwald is ranked 18th, while Friedman and Sara Borkop sit in 73rd.
- The doubles team of Kaitlyn Carnicella and Bella Bergqvist Larsson moved up to 19th, right behind their teammates.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gamecocks fell to No. 1 Georgia, 4-1, on Sunday at home in their SEC opener. Jana Stojanova and Sara Borkop earned a 6-4 win in their doubles match, but the Gamecocks fell from the first and second positions to drop the doubles point. Helena Buchwald, playing on court 2, delivered the lone South Carolina point with her 6-2, 6-4 upset over No. 7 Aysegul Mert.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
LSU comes in at No. 9 in the latest edition of the ITA rankings and is 7-2 this season. The Tigers enter the match-up coming off a 5-2 loss against Ole Miss on the road to open the SEC slate. LSU made it to the quarterfinals of the ITA National Indoor Championship, where the team fell 4-0 to the eventual champions, No. 1 Georgia.
Kayla Cross (51), Cadence Brace (75), Kina Graham (96), Kenna Erickson (107), Carolina Kuhl (114), and Addison Lanton (115) represent the Tigers in the ITA singles rankings. Ella McDonald and Cross come in at No. 40 for doubles, while McDonald and Erickson are No. 51. Alexia Marginean and Graham round out the team’s rankings at No. 80.

- South Carolina leads the overall series against LSU 27-9.
- The Gamecocks are 16-2 all-time against LSU when playing at home.
SCOUTING THE REBELS
Ole Miss is 6-1 and enters the weekend riding a five-match winning streak. The Rebels opened conference play with a 5-2 upset over No. 4 LSU, and will travel to No. 1 Georgia on Thurs. Feb, 26, before taking on the Gamecocks.
No. 11 Emily Welker is the lone Rebel in the ITA singles rankings. She is 7-0 in the dual match season, with each win coming on court one. The duo of Welker and Andrea Nova comes in at No. 71 in the doubles rankings with a 5-0 record.

- The Gamecocks are 27-15 all-time against Ole Miss, including a current 12-match win streak.
