Baseball Falls to Queens Wednesday Night
COLUMBIA – The South Carolina baseball team dropped its midweek game, 9-8, to Queens on Wednesday night (Feb. 25) at Founders Park.
The Royals jumped out to an early lead in the second, scoring three runs in the frame off two RBI singles. The Gamecocks responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Beau Hollins to score Ethan Lizama.
A three-run home run in the third and a bases-loaded single in the fourth made it 7-1 Royals. Hollins’ second RBI single of the night in the bottom of the frame brought KJ Scobey home. Lizama added a run on a groundout to make it 7-3.
Aaron Jamison’s first home run as a Gamecock came in the seventh. The Royals would bring one more home in the eighth on an RBI single for a 9-5 lead.
The Gamecocks mounted a comeback in the ninth off a double from Lizama, sac fly from Hollins and two-run home run from Tyler Bak but came up a run short. The loss went to Connor Chicoli who gave up five hits, three runs and struck out two in two innings of work.
Hollins drove in three runs while Bak was 3-for-5 with two RBI.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Carolina had 14 hits on the night, with six Gamecocks with two hits apiece.
- Will Craddock reached base four times tonight and is now hitting .500 on the season.
- Hudson Lee pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

South Carolina opens up the Palmetto Series against Clemson on Friday, Feb. 27, in Founders Park. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
