Gamecocks Capture Trio of Golds on Day One of SEC Indoor Championship

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Feb. 26, 2026) – Gamecock Track & Field is well in the mix after winning a combined three gold medals on the opening day of the 2026 SEC Indoor Championship at R.A. ‘Murray’ Faskin Indoor Track & Field Complex in College Station, Texas.

The women’s team accumulated 24 points on the first day, currently tied for second overall. Jathiyah Muhammad secured the Gamecocks’ first gold medal of the day, doing so in the women’s pole vault after clearing 4.40m (14-5.25). Muhammad’s gold medal finish is the first SEC Indoor Women’s Pole Vault title for South Carolina since Kylene Nixon in 1999.

The women’s distance medley relay squad comprised of Eline Mast, Akala Garrett, Sylvia Chelangat and Salma Elbadra captured the program’s first ever SEC Indoor DMR title after running a program record time of 10:45.64. Mast opened the race with a 3:21.92 split in the 1200m, handing the baton off to Garrett who torched the track with a 52.30 400m time. Chelangat was the third leg in the 800m, running 2:05.67 before passing off to Elbadra who clocked a 4:25.76 in the 1600m to bring home 10 points for the Garnet & Black. In addition to the program record, the quartet ran a new SEC Championship record, a facility record and the ninth fastest time in collegiate history.

South Carolina’s men’s DMR team made it a clean sweep in the event after winning for the second time in three years to give the Garnet & Black 10 points on the men’s side. Edouard Lecrivain, Andrew Salvodon, Kaleb Burroughs and Jaouad Khchina pushed the Gamecocks to a third consecutive podium finish after running 9:30.08 for the second fastest time in school history. Lecrivain opened with a 2:55.82 split in the 1200m before Salvodon cruised to a 45.49 leg in the 400m. Burroughs kept the Gamecocks ahead after running 1:49.40 in the 800m, handing the baton to Khchina who finished the job with a 1600m leg of 3:59.39.

Tristen Harris earned four more points for the women’s team in the long jump. The Louisiana native set a new personal best distance of 6.46m (21-2.5) to place fifth overall, resulting in the third longest jump in school history. Harris is the first Gamecock to score at the SEC Indoor Championship in the long jump since Rougui Sow finished sixth in 2018.

On the track, JaMeesia Ford advanced to the 200m finals after clocking a season best 22.58 to finish second overall in the preliminary round. She will look to earn a three-peat in the 200m finale on Saturday. Alexis Brown (23.04) and Cynteria James (23.14) ran the fifth and 10th fastest indoor 200m times in program history during the preliminary round.

South Carolina will resume the SEC Indoor Championship tomorrow in day two, competing in 10 preliminary events beginning with the women’s mile at 5 p.m. (ET). The final event of the day for South Carolina will be the men’s 60-meter hurdle preliminary round at 7:25 p.m. (ET).
