Gamecocks Pick Up 15-4 Win Over Jackrabbits

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – The No. 2 South Carolina Equestrian team (9-4, 3-3) defeated No. 10 South Dakota State (4-7, 4-3) 15-4 on Friday to remain undefeated at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gamecocks started the day with a 5-0 sweep in Fences. Bella Primavera defeated Sarah Gould 80-71 on Marty, and Alyssa Bauer’s 85 beat Julianna Gullo’s 78 on Dobby. Amira Kettaneh picked up her point with an 86-80 on Q. Natalie Jayne brought in an 88 against Isabell Malick’s 83. Jayne grabbed her fourth MOP of the season for her ride on Schnitzel. Grace Rabb completed the sweep on Lenny, winning 74-67. 

South Carolina earned a 4-1 win over the Jackrabbits in Horsemanship to increase the lead to 9-1. Ruby Voortmeyer edged out Hailey Hanson 72.5-72 on Stanley, and Alexis Potts brought in a 76 on Ziggy, scoring her point and earning her fifth MOP honors of the season (most in NCEA). Alyssa Jipping scored her point with a 74 on Brad, and Carly Jenkins rounded it out with a 73.5-72.5 win on Winston against Grace Gerbus. 

The Gamecocks took another 4-1 victory in Flat, clinching the South Carolina win and extending the lead to 13-2. Kettaneh started things off, scoring her point with a dominant 85-66 win. She picked up her sixth MOP honors of the season for her ride on Dento. Jayne won 80-57 on Fenway, and Sarah Rabb edged out Heidi White 66-65 on Nino. Vanessa McCaughley scored her point with a 69 on Major. 

The day finished in Reining, where the Gamecocks and Jackrabbits split the points 2-2. Opal Fomish earned a 71-69 win over Adisyn Kuxhaus on Nike, and Olivia Cardi’s 70.5 on Thor finished the scoring for South Carolina. Emily Patton and Hailey Hanson each scored a 71.5 to close the event out with a tie.
