Harrison Paces Gamecocks at The Hayt

Freshman from Kannapolis, N.C. shot 207 (-9) en route to top-10 finish as Gamecocks finish seventh in strong field at Sawgrass Country Club

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – South Carolina finished seventh in a strong 16-team field at The Hayt on Monday. The Gamecocks shot 852 (-12) with par or better rounds each day at Sawgrass Country Club.

Freshman Talan Harrison had a standout week as he led the team with a T-9^th finish shooting 209 (-7). He rose 41 spots up the leaderboard the last two days shooting 67 (-5) in round two Sunday and 69 (-3) today. Harrison made 11 birdies and a pair of eagles this week, both of which came in today’s final round on the two, front nine par-5s at Sawgrass.

Junior Brock Blais also finished in the top-20, shooting 211 (-5) to finish T-16^th. He was bogey free over his final eight holes today closing strong with an important birdie at the par-5 18^th hole. Blais, a Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. native, shot 70-69-72 in his return home this week. He tied Harrison for the team lead with 11 birdies.

Redshirt senior All-American Frankie Harris shot 216 (E) to finish T-44^th. His tournament was highlighted by an opening round 69 (-3) that featured two birdies and an eagle at the par-5 11^th hole. Sophomore Marek Fleming finished T-55^th at 2-over (218) and senior Zach Adams finished T-65^th at 4-over (222).

No. 2 Auburn held off No. 11 Texas Tech for the team title by two shots at 28-under. The Tigers shot a field-best 275 (-13) today. Auburn All-American Jackson Koivun won medalist honors at 11-under with a 54-hole total of 205 to win by a shot over Charlotte’s Seb Cave and Duke’s William Love.

The Gamecocks picked up nine head-to-head wins this week finishing in front of four teams ranked ahead of Carolina in the latest Clippd Top-25 Poll including in-state rival Clemson.
