Ensley Homers in the Seventh as Gamecocks Fall to Blue Devils
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 23rd ranked South Carolina softball team (15-10) fell to Duke (16-9) 6-2 Tuesday night (Mar. 10) at Carolina Softball Stadium.
Tori Ensley scored both of Carolina’s runs and led the way at the dish going 2-for-4 with a home run. Shae Anderson finished her night 2-for-2 at the plate.
The Blue Devils jumped out to the early lead with two runs in the first and another in the second.
South Carolina got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third when Ensley doubled off the wall in center with two outs. She went to third and scored on a pair of wild pitches.
Duke added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and two more in the seventh on a triple and an error.
With one out in the seventh, it was Ensley again delivering for the Gamecocks. With a 2-2 count, she smashed her fifth home run of the season 242 ft and off the scoreboard in right center.
Nealy Lamb (2-4) started and took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits in 1 1-3 innings. Jori Heard came in an stopped the momentum as she scattered two hits in 4 2-3 innings.
South Carolina goes on the road Wednesday to face Coastal Carolina at 6 p.m.
