Baseball Falls to The Citadel

CHARLESTON – The University of South Carolina baseball team fell to The Citadel, 8-3, Tuesday night (March 10) at Joe Riley Park.

Carolina got on the board fast in the first as Will Craddock’s leadoff home run was originally ruled foul, then changed to fair. The 430-foot blast gave the Gamecocks the 1-0 lead. The Citadel responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, then had a solo homer in the second to take a 3-1 lead.

A Talmadge LeCroy RBI groundout in the third cut the Bulldogs lead to 3-2, but The Citadel answered with two runs in the fourth. Craddock’s second home run of the game cut the Bulldogs advantage to 5-3 in the fifth. The Citadel added three runs in the eighth in its midweek win.

Craddock was 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead Carolina’s offense. Alex Philpott took the loss, allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
