Dec. 15, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina women’s tennis and head coach Kevin Epley proudly announced the 2018 spring schedule on Friday. It features 14 teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season, including the defending national champion Florida Gators.
Carolina is set for 11 home matches and eight away from the Carolina Tennis Center. The Gamecocks will host one home and travel to two tournaments in the regular season.
Nine of the Gamecocks’ upcoming opponents finished last season ranked.
“We are gearing up for another rigorous season with a schedule that rivals the toughest in the nation,” Epley said. “We have big goals this season and we hope that the strength of schedule will set us up for strong postseason play.”
The 2018 season begins in Florida as the Gamecocks will travel to Fort Myers for the FGCU Spring Invite starting Jan. 13.
Carolina hosts the ITA Kick-Off Weekend for the home opener as Oklahoma, Clemson and Southern California come to Columbia. Tournament action begins Jan. 26 against Oklahoma.
The Gamecocks welcome in-state foe Clemson to the Carolina Tennis Center once more this season on Feb. 1 in the first non-tournament match at home in 2018.
SEC play begins March 1 as Carolina travels to Starkville, Miss., to face Mississippi State. The SEC home opener is scheduled for March 9 against Texas A&M.
Senior day will be April 14 against Kentucky.
