OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. —- South Carolina’s Madison Thiel has been selected to participate in the 2017 American Quarter Horse Association Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge Nov. 11-12, during the Lucas Oil AQHA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City. Thiel is one of just eight riders representing the NCEA, with the select view being picked based on their win-loss percentages by the NCEA selection committee.

The preliminaries will take place Nov. 11 starting at 1:30 pm ET while the finals will start Nov. 12 at 8:00 pm ET.

“It’s a huge honor for her to be out there competing,” associate head coach Ruth Sorrel said. “We have a great opportunity to go out there and be successful. It’s going to be a deep field but I think we can hold our own.

“The AQHA is a great organization. We’re extremely excited to get out there. A lot of our alumni will be there so we’re excited to see them. It will be fun.”

Along with seven other NCEA riders, Thiel will also be competing against eight Intercollegiate Horse Show Association institutions’ riders.

“Being selected to ride in this competition is such an incredible honor,” Thiel said. “It’s a great opportunity for the NCEA to get exposure and to watch the top riders in the nation compete for the title. I am extremely blessed to have been chosen to represent not only my team but also the entire Gamecock nation. I can’t wait to enter the ring tomorrow in the garnet and black.”
