Women's Golf Announces Spring Schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” South Carolina women’s golf coach Kalen Anderson unveiled the Gamecocks’ 2018 spring schedule Friday, announcing a challenging slate that features four events before next April’s SEC Championship.

“I’m very excited about our spring schedule,” Anderson said. “We are in deep, competitive fields all spring, and that will prepare us for the postseason. I look forward to building on the momentum of the fall with this motivated group.”

Carolina opens the spring at the Florida State Match-Up (Feb. 9-11) for the fifth-straight year. The Gamecocks have boasted strong showings at the event in the first four years of its existence, winning the tournament in 2014 before earning runner-up honors in 2016 and 2017. Ana Pelaez, one of four Carolina golfers to earn a top-10 finish at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course last season, finished second after totaling the lowest 54-hole score (208, -10) by a Gamecock freshman ever.

In March, the Gamecocks return to Hilton Head Island, S.C., to host the seventh annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event, set for March 2-4, will again feature the best women’s golf programs in the country. Seven of Golfstat’s current top-10 teams will be in action at Long Cove Club, including 2017 champions Alabama.

The Gamecocks round out the regular season with the Evans-Derby Experience (Auburn, Ala., March 18-20) and the Bryan National Collegiate (Browns Summit, N.C., Apr. 6-8). This spring will mark Carolina’s first appearance at the Evans-Derby Experience, which will be hosted by Auburn. The Gamecocks have grabbed runner-up honors at the Bryan National Collegiate in two of the last three years, and Carolina junior Marion Veysseyre and Pelaez placed inside the top-20 at the event in 2017.

The 2018 SEC Championship (Apr. 18-22) will again be contested at Greystone Golf Club in Birmingham, Ala. Carolina has earned top-five finishes at the league tournament in seven of its 10 seasons under Anderson, and former Gamecock standout Katelyn Dambaugh won the individual title at the event last season after posting the lowest three-round total (204, -12) in program history.

The No. 7 Gamecocks wrapped up a successful fall season in October at the Landfall Tradition, where they placed fourth. Carolina closed its fall with back-to-back top-five finishes in a stretch highlighted by a record showing at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational. The Gamecocks recorded the school’s lowest 54-hole mark (846, -18) en route to third-place honors at the event.
