Equestrian vs. #1 Georgia
Bishop, GA. — South Carolina equestrian dropped a hard-fought 14-6 meet to No. 1 Georgia on Friday at the UGA Equestrian Complex. Carolina trailed just 6-4 at halftime following Equitation Over Fences and Horsemanship, but a late Bulldog charge proved to be the difference in the meet.
“We’ve go to work a little harder,” head coach Boo Major said. “But there were still a lot of positives. We’ve still got our work cut out for us. We’ve got to ride and work a little bit harder. We have things we need to work on as student-athletes and coaches but I think we’re on the right track. We’re just not quite where we want to be yet.”
Carolina started the day with a 3-2 victory in Equitation Over Fences thanks to wins from Madison Brayman, Chloe Schmidt and Lauren Fabiano. Brayman and George rode to an 82-79 victory over Emma Mandarino while Schmidt and Jake picked up an 81-80 win against Ali Tritsschler. Fabiano and Lola earned the third point in a 78-75 victory against Meghan Flanagan.
In Horsemanship, the Gamecocks earned another point thanks to a Madison Thiel victory. Thiel and Rodney earned a 77-76 win against Payton Anderson to make it 6-4, Georgia, at halftime.
The two teams closed the day in Reining, where Carolina added two more points thanks to Jordan Scott and Bailey Walters wins. Scott and Odie rode to a 67-66.5 victory over Julia Spreng while Walters and Smoke picked up a 67-66.5 win over Jordan Carpenter.
