ROCKY FACE, Ga. — South Carolina had a strong finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sunday, shooting a final round 283 (-5) to finish eighth in the loaded 15-team field. The Gamecocks third round tally was their best of the tournament.

Three players shot under-par for Carolina highlighted by Will Miles’ 5-under 67. The Hilton Head Island, S.C., native, finished T-12th individually for his eighth career top-20 showing. His 67 in the third round is the second-lowest 18-hole tally of his career. He led the team with seven birdies Sunday. The junior shot a 1-under 35 to start the day on the back nine, and he finished with a bogey free 4-under 32 on the front.

2017 PING All-Southeast Region selection Scott Stevens posted his second consecutive under-par round with a 2-under 70. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native, opened with a bogey free 34 (-2) on the back and closed with an even par 36 on the front. Stevens had four birdies on the day en route to finishing T-26th.

Freshman Andrew Spiegler shot his first career under-par round in the Garnet and Black with a 3-under 69 on Sunday. Like Stevens, Spiegler began the day with a bogey free 2-under 34 on the back nine. He finished with a 1-under 35 on the front. Spiegler also had four birdies. He finished T-44th.

Sophomore Caleb Proveaux was unable to get it going in the final round has he shot 78 (+6). He carded three birdies in his last five holes Sunday. Senior Keenan Huskey posted a final round 77 (+5). His day was highlighted by an eagle on the 498-yard par-5 12th hole. Senior Ben Dietirch, who competed as an individual, shot an even par 72 in the third round to finish T-48th.

No. 19 Georgia Tech won the event after defeating No. 12 Alabama in a playoff Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets and Crimson tide each shot 279 (-9) Sunday. All six programs in the field from the SEC finished in the top-eight of the team standings. Alejandro Tosti of Florida took home medalist honors after shooting 205 (-11) over the course of the three-day event. Twenty-three players shot under-par for the tournament, 10 hailing from the SEC. Sixteen players from the SEC finished in the top-30.

It was good to see freshman Andrew Spiegler play well today too. It was a good field, and we gained some great information and experience this week. Our guys should be very productive preparing for our next event.”

ROUND CHANGER Will Miles

Miles’ 67 (-5) was one stroke off his career best 18-hole score of 66. It was his first round in the 60s of the 2017-18 season. Miles was a birdie machine at The Farm as he led the field with 18 red numbers on his scorecard over three days. He tallied seven birdies in the first round, four in the second round and seven in the final round on Sunday.

NOTABLE

Caleb Proveaux’s T-26th finish was a new career-best. He tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring average at 2.92 (-1).
Scott Stevens carded his 36th career round of par or better on Saturday with his 70 (-2).
South Carolina (51) was one of seven teams to tally 50 birdies at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. Will Miles (18), Stevens (13) and Proveaux (12) combined for 43 of the team’s 51.
The Gamecocks tied for second in the field with three eagles during the tournament.
