Gamecocks Get Sneak Peak at SEC Course during Bulldogs SEC Preview
Sept. 8, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina, coming off a win in the season-opening Carolina Challenge, hits its first long course of the season as part of the Bulldog SEC Preview, hosted by Georgia on the UGA Golf Course on Saturday morning.
The Gamecocks, who downed Clemson and five other in-state rivals on its home course, travels west three hours to the 2017 SEC Championships host Georgia for its second outing of the year. Six Gamecocks finished within 30 seconds of each other, including a pair of freshmen, Brooke Wilson and Heather Stone, who broke 19 minutes in their first collegiate 5K.
South Carolina also hopes to see its team finish as strong as it did a week ago when 11 of its 17 runners posted collegiate-best times at the distance, led by senior Kaylee Wessel’s time of 18:36.2, which shaved 30 seconds off her top time. Sophomore Anna Kathryn Stoddard led the team overall and finished just off her career-best 5K time.
Georgia hosts its first meet since 2007 on the UGA Golf Course on Saturday, with the women’s 6K event beginning at 9:15 a.m. EDT. Among the entrants getting a look at the championship course are Auburn, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
