ATHENS, Ga. ââ’¬” South Carolina’s top double team of junior Hadley Berg and sophomore Paige Cline ended its NCAA Doubles Championship run as No. 6 Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi of Kentucky defeated the Gamecocks 4-6, 7-6(6), 10-5 Friday at the Dan MaGill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga in the Round of 16. Berg and Cline came out firing on all cylinders with a dominating 6-2 score in the first set. But Adachi and Sutjiadi returned for the second with a renewed vigor to quickly take a 4-1 lead. The Gamecocks’ were able to tie it up at 6-6 but fell 8-6 in the tiebreak. Adachi and Sutjiadi found their rhythm in the third set, quickly posting a 10-5 score to make a 4-6, 7-6(6), 10-5 final score and advance to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship. Berg and Cline finished the season with a 12-12 record overall and a 9-9 record in the spring.
