Gamecocks Add Morgan Davis, Anna Vest to 2018 Freshman Class

April 14, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head softball coach Beverly Smith added Morgan Davis and Anna Vest to her freshman class for next year’s team, bringing the group of newcomers to seven for her 2018 team.

Davis, a 5-6, left-handed hitting utility player from Mt. Zion, Ill., has played three years for the Braves of Mt. Zion High School. She hit .377 during her junior year for the Braves, earning Illinois High School Association 3A All-State Third-Team honors. She’s also played with the New Lenox Lightning travel-ball group. Davis was also a standout in basketball, posting the highest free throw percentage during one of her two years on that team.

Vest, a 5-8, right-handed hitting catcher from Lake Jackson, Texas, is a second-team all-district and all-county player for Brazoswood High School, helping the Lady Bucs win two District 24-6A titles in the last three years. She’s hit 13 doubles in the past two seasons, driving in a total of 42 runs in those campaigns. She’s also a part of the Impact Gold travel-ball group.

Both Davis and Vest are members of their school’s chapters of the National Honor Society.

“I am excited to announce the addition of Morgan and Anna to the 2017 signing class,” remarked Smith. “This completes a strong class of excellent student-athletes.”

The Gamecocks continue the 2017 season this evening, hosting No. 1/2 Florida State at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
