COLUMBIA, S.C. — Led by head coach Curtis Frye, the University of South Carolina track & field team is pleased to announce its 2017 competition schedule. The Gamecocks will compete in 20 meets over the course of the indoor and outdoor seasons, with a competitive national schedule covering 10 states.

The schedule is highlighted by the return of the SEC Outdoor Championships to Columbia. The Gamecocks will welcome many of the finest athletes in the nation to the brand-new, world-class Cregger Track for the annual conference meet, to be held May 11-13. In addition to hosting the meet, the Gamecocks will hold several alumni events throughout the week. Gamecock alumni wishing to participate should contact associate head coach Delethea Quarles at DQUARLES@mailbox.sc.edu or (803) 777-1617.

Once again, the Gamecocks will traverse the nation, competing in many of the top track & field events throughout the United States. Highlights include the Armory Invitational, held Feb. 3-4 in New York City, the Florida Relays, running March 30 — April 1 in Gainesville, Fla., and the Penn Relays, taking place April 27-29 in Philadelphia.

The indoor schedule begins on Saturday, Jan. 14, when Carolina stays in the Palmetto State to compete in the Clemson Invitational. The indoor portion of the calendar culminates with the SEC Indoor Championships, held Feb. 24-25 in Nashville, Tenn., and the NCAA Indoor Championships, set to run March 10-11 in College Station, Texas.

The calendar ramps up with the start of the 2017 outdoor schedule, and the Gamecocks are thrilled to host four separate meets at Cregger Track. Carolina hosts the annual Weems Baskin Invitational March 24-25, with one-day events coming to Columbia on April 15 and 22. It all leads to May 11-13, when the Gamecocks play host to the 2017 SEC Outdoor Championships.

The collegiate season concludes in Eugene, Ore., as the University of Oregon hosts the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships. This year’s national championship extravaganza will be held June 7-10.

Following the conclusion of the collegiate campaign, the Gamecocks will send a select group of student-athletes to the USATF National Championships. The event runs June 22-25 in Sacramento, Calif.

South Carolina welcomes back a strong lineup from 2016, including 10 veterans who earned NCAA All-America status last year. On the women’s side, Natasha Dicks was an All-American in the triple jump both for the indoor and outdoor seasons. Aliyah Abrams is also back in the fold after representing Guyana in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, and Nakita Gray returns after winning the high jump at the 2016 SEC Indoor Championship.

On the men’s side, Josh Awotunde is back for the Gamecocks after placing top-five at both SEC Championships in the shot put and earning an All-America spot. Returners Ncincilili Titi, David Winters and Jussi Kanervo also earned All-America accolades last season.
