Martins Ready for USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the first time since 1990, a Gamecock is headed to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. Sophomore Ingrid Gamarra Martins is set to compete at the tournament, which runs from Thursday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 6 and is held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

“Ingrid has had a great fall and we are looking forward to her capping off the season with a great opportunity at the National Indoors,” said head coach Kevin Epley. “She continues to improve each week and we think she has a good chance to surprise some people in New York.”

Due to Martins’ success this fall, the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native was tabbed an at-large selection for the singles main draw back on Oct. 27. She is 10-3 in singles play this fall, boasting five ranked wins. Two of her three losses came to opponents ranked higher than her at No. 55. Also this fall, Martins became the first Gamecock since 2000 to reach the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships, and the first since 1999 to make it to the round of 16.

Martins’ run at the tournament is set to begin on Thursday at 10 a.m. as she takes on Karla Popovic of California in the round of 32. The remaining schedule will vary based on results. Live scoring and live video is available for all matches. Links for those can be found above. Matches are streamed through FloTennis.com, which has a fee associated with it.
