Sept. 25, 2016
COLUMBIA, S.C. — After one weekend of fall tennis, the South Carolina men’s tennis team already has a title under its belt. Thomas Mayronne and Andrew Schafer captured the doubles title in the Pagoda draw at the Ivy-Plus Invitational on Sunday with an 8-3 win over Jean Thirouin and Kenny Tao of Harvard.
“It was a good first tournament for all of our guys,” said head coach Josh Goffi. “They fought hard and competed to the best of their abilities. We’ll head back home, evaluate their matches, and attack the areas that need to get better before our next tournament. Overall, it was a good start to the year.”

In the Tiger draw singles final, Friedrich fell to Columbia’s Shawn Hadavi, No. 55 in the ITA preseason rankings. O’Keefe battleD back from an opening round loss to make it to the consolation final, where he was toppled by Timo Stodder of Tennessee, who is ranked No. 89 in the ITA preseason rankings.
